Georgia Vision 2020
In 2016 eye care organizations came together to acknowledge the growing burden of vision impairment and the need to address gaps in care. Together they are working to educate people about the need for eye exams and the devastating reality that diabetes and glaucoma may be damaging your eyes for years before you know it and thus the importance of regular eye exams.
Vision 2020: The Right To Sight
In 1999 research found that with the growing and aging population we were on track to have 80 million people blind worldwide by the year 2020 and a shocking 80% of that blindness could have been avoided. Thus Vision 2020: The Right to Sight was born. Vision 2020 is an international initiative run by the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness that sought to promote a “world where nobody is needlessly visually impaired and where those with unavoidable vision loss can achieve their full potential.
Georgia Vision Network
The Georgia Vision Network aims to connect patients directly with their nearest available eye care provider through a telehealth database to ensure their vision care follow up needs are met.
World Sight Day
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and visual impairment. Georgia 2020 has celebrated the day by holding a large full service vision screening for populations in need and hosting a speaking event to raise awareness about the challenges of living with and preventing vision impairment.
